Everything that we experience, teaches us. We learn from it. And what we learn comes of use to us at some level or the other. I learnt medicine after school. Just got lost in it. Lost track of time and life just flew by. When life flows, one is happy. So was I.
One day, I heard of Reiki, a healing modality. Got curious about it. The level 1 was just 2 days. Learnt it, liked it. Went on to do the other levels too. Some how, I did not practice it for long. Yet, the neural pathways in my brain remained and one day they would ignite again. More of that later.
Then out of the blue, I don’t know how, an email addressed me . “Want to learn Hypnosis” , it said. Hypnosis fascinates many people. It fascinated me too. Again, the Level 1 was only 2 days. And again I did not stop at Level 1. Completed all the Five levels, did teachers trainings on each. In the process , I learnt Neurolinguistic Programming, Neuroscience therapy, vagus nerve therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, Time Line Therapy and Transpersonal Regression therapy.
From a part time holistic healer, after my retirement from clinical medical practice, I went into full time holistic healing. That’s what I do today.
So what happened to Reiki, Neurolinguistic programming, Time line therapy , Hypnosis, Neuroscience therapy, Vagus Nerve therapy ? Transpersonal regression ? No, their learning did not go waste. In amazing ways, they come of use when I deal with a client.
One of my clients, a drug addict, was referred to me by a Psychiatrist for hypnosis . I used Emotional freedom technique ( EFT ) to reach him. EFT is a wonderful and very simple technique founded by Gary Craig. I wish everyone should learn it for use on themselves – Easy to learn . No prior knowledge or experience required. Its also called tapping. And uses the body energy points which are stimulated followed by affirmations. Very simple to do and very effective. I use it a lot in combination with my other modalities.
The best way to explain what I do and how the mind works to a medical doctor or psychologist or a person who is familiar with the human nervous system is by identifying the structures of the human brain that explain the functions of the conscious mind and prepare a script which is directed to these structures to bring about healing. For example if its PTSD, then it’s the Hippocampus that needs to be addressed or if its addictions , then the Basal Ganglia and so on. That’s where Neuroscience therapy comes into play.
A person in anxiety or phobias not going to respond to logic, as the part that deals with logic in the brain is suppressed by the Amygdala which is triggering the anxiety response. Vagus nerve exercises help a lot. They bring in a quick response from the parasympathetic system from the person and then he / she begin to respond to the healing .
Most of my work is deep level work. Going to the cause of where the problem started – not from the cognitive awareness of the client , but from the vast storehouse of his / her subconscious mind. Some times I get a person who is not interested in deep level work. In the ups and downs of life, where he / she has experienced far more downs than ups, the client says, “ I am here, I just want you to give me calm and comfort . I am fed of the trauma”. Reiki gives such a client what he / she seeks. Done for the period of its healing puts the person back into a position where he / she has the energy to deal with the situations in life.
And many times when the healing session starts, the clients body feels the symptom – a heaviness or a pain, it can be any symptom, and when that comes up, it becomes like a portal to go through time and space to reach where the issue of the client started from. The client’s body gives the open signal – “Hey, start from here” This if where trans personal regression comes into use.
Even when I use hypnosis, some clients respond to direct suggestions while others to the indirect Ericksonian suggestions. The idea is to reach the client where his / her response is best. Because if his / her response is best, the healing will be complete.
That’s why I said that nothing that you have learnt in life goes waste. Maybe, I don’t just mean it for only academic learning. Afterall, life too is an educative journey.
